The President – Director General of the Lebanese Regie for Tobacco, Eng. Nassif Seklaoui, received the Head of the Syndicate of Tobacco and Tumbac Farmers in Akkar, Mr. Abdel Hamid Sakr. The meeting was also attended by the Leaf Tobacco Manager, Engineer Abdel Mawla Al Mawla, and the Agriculture Manager, Engineer Jaafar Al Husseini.
During the discussions, the conditions of farmers were addressed, and preparations for the upcoming tobacco-purchasing season were reviewed, noting that the season is set to begin on October 3, 2024.
Mr. Sakr expressed his appreciation for the Regie’s efforts to provide fair prices, taking into account the challenges farmers faced this year.
On the other hand, Engineer Seklaoui reaffirmed the Regie’s commitment to supporting all tobacco and tumbac farmers across Lebanon, emphasizing that the Regie will not abandon them.
The Regie also announced that its purchasing committees will begin receiving tobacco crops in Akkar on October 3, 2024 and that logistical preparations are underway to ensure a smooth start to the process.
